Upon looking at this cake most people have already decided that they want to eat the hell out of it. There's the cream peaks around the outside, the thick crunchy milk chocolate shell on top, and the crumbly, chocolatey biscuit base at the bottom. I have always been massive fan of Almondy cakes but had not yet tried this Toblerone flavour.
The whole thing weighs in at 400 grams and personally (take this with a pinch of salt considering I ate the whole thing as part of a larger meal) I would say that it could provide 4 decent servings. As far as value for money goes; I picked this up from Tesco for £3.00; I would say that it is certainly worth it in any context.
Correct proportions are difficult to get correct, but this tart makes it look easy. A good example of this at the very top with the thickness of the milk chocolate layer. The Toblerone pieces give a satisfyingly crunchy texture to it but without being obviously 'Toblerone'. I personally was not too bothered that the Toblerone aspect of this dessert was not particularly apparent, so I'm not considering this a negative.
In all things Almondy the biscuit base is a remarkably good constant. It's not much like a cheesecake base as it is nowhere near that crumbly, and in fact I ate pieces by piercing them with a dessert fork with no worry as to if it would fall apart. Here, as well as being quite dense, it also packed a relatively strong chocolatey flavour that still managed to separate itself from the rest of the milk chocolate tones throughout the layers.
Another of those aforementioned milk chocolate flavours was the chocolate cream which, whilst passable, was certainly nothing special. This was most immediately evident in the larger quantities around the circumference. However, in the smaller servings below the top layer it offset the firm textures nicely and gave the cake a moistness which I enjoyed.
If you've read this far in the review I hardly feel that I need to tell you that I really enjoyed this Almondy Toblerone. More often that not I am sceptical when it comes to frozen desserts because I never trust the whole defrosting process to go correctly. When it comes to Almondy tarts though, I never have this worry. As well as being reliable in that aspect, I can also count on the fact that they will be at least tasty enough. If you haven't yet tried an Almondy tart before, this would be a great one to start with, and if you already like Almondy but haven't tried this this Toblerone variant, then I seriously recommend you try it out.
